5.0 out of 5 stars Super toy - good for learning and for fun, May 24, 2002

This was a gift from Grandma for our 18 month old. Our daughter figured out how to cut a few months later. It's perfect for age two and up. She loves to cut up all the fruits, veggies, and bread. It comes with two cutting boards and two knives so a friend can play along too. It keeps her entertained for a long time and, as others have mentioned, teaches her the names of a few fruits and veggies along the way. Everything comes in a nice wooden box with a slide-on lid, which is great for storing all the pieces and for the fun of "in and out" of the box. My only complaint is that the velcro stickers which hold the pieces together are not compeletly durable. I've reglued a few of them, which has been no big deal to do. Overall a great toy, well priced, and nicely made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice, September 26, 2003

I wanted to get my daughters some play food that wasn't plastic, and this turned out to be a gem. I have to say that the picture here doesn't do it justice -- the pieces are much more appealing in person. Originally I thought they would like one of the other 2 sets better (the pizza or the sandwich set), but after purchasing them, this is the clear favorite. These pieces are the most versatile. There is some bread, which can be fashioned into a sandwich. The veggies/fruits can be served as is or chopped up in a "stew", etc. The carrot can double for chunks of cheddar.....and on and on. We've counted pieces. We've played restaurant. And really, getting the cucumber back together so there is not a kink in the middle is almost a puzzle. There is something most satisfying about the crunching, slicing sound too.
I do agree with the other reviewer about the paint smell though (but it does go away). And the red paint started rubbing off on the knife almost immediately... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Lets Kids Use Their Imaginations! A Great Toy!, November 17, 2003
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
The picture above shows the OLD cuting food box that came with 2 knives and 2 cutting boards. Now it comes with 1 knife and 1 cutting board, so that this toy cannot be shared. I prefer it to have 2 boards and knives so that 2 kids can share it - otherwise fights do ensue.

But I do love this toy. My daughter received it for her 2nd birthday and still loves to play with it (she is over 3 now). One problem is that the baby loves it too (17 months) but some of the pieces (carrot) are choking hazards - hence the age warning. We moved the toy to the 3 yr old's bedroom to keep it out of reach of the baby until she is older. I did not notice a strong paint odor upon opening the toy. The toy is of quality construction - I think this toy will last forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it here, August 7, 2011

I just purchased this exact slicer from a TV shopping channel at almost twice the price it is offered here, it taught me to check Amazon before I make any purchases anymore! Now onto this slicer, it works absolutely perfectly. It makes beautiful slices of just about anything and when the dicing blades are engaged you can make nice small to medium dices of onions, potatoes etc. I am in love with how well this works, so much better than my expensive stainless German import that I needed for my work. The fancy expensive one doesn't work half as good as this one does!

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware - this is NOT the Genius Speed Slicer Plus, August 19, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Tri Sales Marketing GN000006 Genius Speed Food Slicer - As Seen On TV
Unlike the previous reviewer, this is NOT the same product as the Genius Speed Slicer Plus that is sold on QVC. The description of the item on Amazon.com was sparse at best. After reading the previous person's review, one could only assume that the better deal was on Amazon.com, so I ordered it ($17.95 plus $5.99 shipping). However, upon receipt of the item, it was not the same. For one, there is no "kick-stand" as is on the Speed Slicer Plus. That may not be significant to some people, but that is helpful during the food prepping when the storage container isn't needed. I contacted the seller, who was very prompt in responding to my email. I thought perhaps the kick-stand was just missing. He said there is no kick-stand with this unit, and one is not available. He agreed to accept the return, of course for the purchase price only. I'm giving it 3 stars because I suppose it works as advertized. The best price is often with Amazon.com, but in this instance, this is not the... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Not As Advertized - QVC has the real deal!!!, August 29, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Tri Sales Marketing GN000006 Genius Speed Food Slicer - As Seen On TV
I agree with a previous reviewer; details on products are often missing or deceptive. I would suggest calling the retailer and getting an e-mail from them confirming details. If they cannot give them, avoid the seller. There's nothing in this box that measures 4"H. x 5"W.x 10"D except the box containing the product (even those measurements are a little off). The measurements of the slicer are: 1-9/16"H. x 3-1/2"W. x 11"L (including the handle for holding the tool while you use it). The slide width your tomato, etc., needs to fit in is only 2-3/4" wide. A lot of veggies will have to be cut down first in order to fit the slide area. This is a mini-slicer, not the full-size tool as I expected from the measurements given. Now that I've paid $24.81 (inc. S&H), I see the price has been cut to $11.00, a more accurate value. If Tri Sales Marketing doesn't adjust my purchase accordingly, they'll be on my "avoid" list. It's truth in advertising that wins repeat customers. I should have gone... Read more
