5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for me! Just what I wanted! Here is why., July 29, 2009

Well most reviews are just about features, not about what the products are intended to be used for once purchased, so I figured I'd take a different approach and maybe it would help someone who may be deciding to buy this slicer. When I was reading the many reviews on the multitude of slicers on Amazon I was confused as to why even slicers over $200.00 had buyers who were not satisfied. I was looking for a slicer to cut pork roll which is a fav at work and I get a roll about 6lbs and 5 inches in diameter and maybe a foot and a half long. You can't cut it by hand without getting fat and skinny edges on the same slice. This slicer however performed very well for the money. Most reviews I read said hard to clean, not enough power, sucks on cheese. Well, maybe cheese is too sticky when you cut it and pulls on the blade causing it to drag and slowing the motor down. maybe you need a commercial slicer for 300.00 or more or go sloooooooooooooooooower. I had not one bit of problem cutting,... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Home Use DEFINITELY!, May 12, 2008

Excellent product for the price.
Instruction booklet/manual not very clear or too helpful.
Nearly broke the blade retaining screw trying to remove the blade after the first use - that's why the 4-stars and not 5 - need to remove screw by turning it clockwise.
Slices very thin perfectly - did some cheddar cheese, smoked ham, and roast beef with no problems.
Used machine constantly for 30 minutes first time and no "burnouts" or burning smell from motor. Cleanup is easy - once you remember to unscrew clockwise!
Definitely for home use, not an industrial strength machine but well fabricated and built.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me!, September 8, 2008

This review is from: YH LH PRO SERIES FOOD SLICER H
I'm pleased with my slicer. It works for me. I have had a slicer, slowly disintegrating, for the past 30 years, so I knew I would use it and wanted one that would last. The Continental is sturdily built, for the most part, and I expect to be able to repair age or damage myself. The movable fence that alligns the meat with the blade is held in place with a single metric phillips-head machine screw. It had gotten a bit chewed up during manufacture, so I replaced it from my convenient neighborhood hardware store. The blade is not serrated, so I will be able to sharpen it with a stone, when the day comes. Removal of significant parts for cleaning is simple, though I need a screwdriver, and in time, may need a pair of pliers. The parts clean easily enough, but I fear I will lose a couple of plastic washers eventually. Cleaning the bulk of the machine, after the removable parts have been cleaned, is awkward, but managable. The machine doesn't break down for storage, so it takes up... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Designed for household use, this electric food slicer is perfect for meats, cheeses, vegetables, and fruits, making it easy to prepare sandwiches, salads, antipasto, and party trays. The 100-watt condenser motor operates quietly, and the carriage travels smoothly. The slicer's 7-inch surgical-stainless-steel blade removes for cleaning and sharpening. A thickness-adjustment knob permits paper-thin slices or slabs about 0.6-inch thick. Safety features include a hidden childproof switch that prevents the slicer from being turned on, and an automatic on/off switch on the thickness-control knob so the slicer shuts off as soon as the thumb releases pressure. (The on/off switch can also be set for continuous operation.) For cleaning, parts disassemble easily. Made of rugged plastic and stainless steel, the slicer weighs 11 pounds and measures 14 inches wide, 10-1/2 inches high, and 11-1/2 inches deep. It carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Slicer for Home Use - 5 Star Potential, April 5, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer (Kitchen)
I used to work in a deli and have used my fair share of commercial slicers. When I decided to buy one for home use, I knew that I didn't want one of the large, cumbersome slicers that I had used in the past, and that this would mean some tradeoffs in terms of power and quality. After taking a long look around, I finally decided on the CC-630, and I'm glad I did. I believe this unit offers an excellent compromise between commercial power and everyday practicality.

Please don't misunderstand... you don't want this slicer if you're looking to open a deli or restaurant. You can feel the slicer slow down as it cuts through denser foods (like meat and cheese) that the commercial slicers would just pass right through.

This little unit is best suited to the home user who wants to be able to cut enough cold cuts for a day's use - say packing lunches for the family. It's also great for slicing up roasts, BONELESS turkey/chicken, cheeses, and vegetables... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Will not last when slicing meat, May 13, 2008
This review is from: Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer (Kitchen)
I owned this slicer for two years, and used it maybe twenty times at most--usually for slicing ham. At first it seemed to work fine. Then I noticed it ran a bit slower with each use until it finally quit working entirely. I disassembled the slicer to see if it could be repaired. Inside I found a rather small burned-out electric motor. In my opinion, this motor is much too weak to last very long if used for slicing meat. The motor in my Kitchen Aid blender is larger (and has lasted for many years under daily use.)

FYI, the EdgeCraft company which manufactures Chef's Choice does not sell replacement motor or gear parts. You must send it to them for repair. However, they don't make repair estimates over the phone. Considering the price I paid for this product, I feel totally ripped off. I will never buy another Chef's Choice product.

I read a review about a different slicer which recommends limiting use to under 10 minutes at a time. I would strongly... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Slicer, January 30, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer (Kitchen)
I can only give this slicer 5 stars, if I had a choice I would give it 10 stars.
I got this as a Christmas gift. My first use was to test it at slicing the dinner turkey leftovers for lunch meat. It worked perfectly.
I have since used it to slice roast beef, sharp cheddar cheese, ham and vegetables.
The meat is cut as thin as you want, I prefer very thin, no problem.
This is a dream machine, it is built to last and easy to clean.
I have tried to find something negitive to say but I really cannot. If you need a slicer Buy it,
No I don;t work for chefchoice. I am really a satisified customer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good and Bad features, June 4, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: World Cuisine 48297-99 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer (Kitchen)
For the money this is not a bad spiral slicer considering some list for over 100 dollars. The real sticking point is the fixed forward axle for whatever you are slicing. It consists of a round hollow cutting edge with an approximate 3/8 opening. This simply means whatever you are slicing will lose a 3/8 cylinder from its center. This is accepatable with Cucumbers and Zuchini but does not leave much when slicing Carrots, Raddishes or any other small diameter veggies.
I would not recommend this if you intend to use it for these smaller veggies but for potatoes, Apples and the like it is OK.

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthy purchase, July 23, 2008

This review is from: World Cuisine 48297-99 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer (Kitchen)
So far, after having the spirooli slicer for 3 weeks, I am quite happy with the product. I have one complaint which would not prevent me from buying it again. Main complaint, the fact that it is made of plastic: I don't fully trust that the plastic crank arm will last forever but it works well and is easy to clean. The plastic arm you must use to apply pressure allowing the vegetable you are slicing to sit tightly against the cutting blades seems like a handle waiting to break. So I don't even use it. I have to place a thumb below the crank and my fingers grip the top of the slicer in order to apply enough even pressure to push the vegetable up against the blade while cranking it. An irritating design flaw. I would prefer that it was made out of stainless steel.

Other than that I am very happy with the product. It does exactly what it says it should do. As a matter of fact, the first time I used it on zucchini, it created an 18 foot long noodle!! Of course,... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Spiral cutter is sturdy., March 10, 2008

Cuts well, comes with 3 blades, takes seconds to clean. Cutting the spirals after with kitchen shears works better than the recommended slicing vegetable before spiral cutting. Machine fairly sturdy. Surpised at how well sweet potatoes apples and beets go together with Newman's Own lime salad dressing. Core apples and pears before cutting. Carrots are almost too small.

Love it, use it frequently. Great for RAW.

If this one breaks might actually think about getting the $300 all metal version.
