Amazon.com Review

Designed for household use, this electric food slicer is perfect for meats, cheeses, vegetables, and fruits, making it easy to prepare sandwiches, salads, antipasto, and party trays. The 100-watt condenser motor operates quietly, and the carriage travels smoothly. The slicer's 7-inch surgical-stainless-steel blade removes for cleaning and sharpening. A thickness-adjustment knob permits paper-thin slices or slabs about 0.6-inch thick. Safety features include a hidden childproof switch that prevents the slicer from being turned on, and an automatic on/off switch on the thickness-control knob so the slicer shuts off as soon as the thumb releases pressure. (The on/off switch can also be set for continuous operation.) For cleaning, parts disassemble easily. Made of rugged plastic and stainless steel, the slicer weighs 11 pounds and measures 14 inches wide, 10-1/2 inches high, and 11-1/2 inches deep. It carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Slicer for Home Use - 5 Star Potential, April 5, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer (Kitchen)
I used to work in a deli and have used my fair share of commercial slicers. When I decided to buy one for home use, I knew that I didn't want one of the large, cumbersome slicers that I had used in the past, and that this would mean some tradeoffs in terms of power and quality. After taking a long look around, I finally decided on the CC-630, and I'm glad I did. I believe this unit offers an excellent compromise between commercial power and everyday practicality.

Please don't misunderstand... you don't want this slicer if you're looking to open a deli or restaurant. You can feel the slicer slow down as it cuts through denser foods (like meat and cheese) that the commercial slicers would just pass right through.

This little unit is best suited to the home user who wants to be able to cut enough cold cuts for a day's use - say packing lunches for the family. It's also great for slicing up roasts, BONELESS turkey/chicken, cheeses, and vegetables... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Will not last when slicing meat, May 13, 2008
This review is from: Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer (Kitchen)
I owned this slicer for two years, and used it maybe twenty times at most--usually for slicing ham. At first it seemed to work fine. Then I noticed it ran a bit slower with each use until it finally quit working entirely. I disassembled the slicer to see if it could be repaired. Inside I found a rather small burned-out electric motor. In my opinion, this motor is much too weak to last very long if used for slicing meat. The motor in my Kitchen Aid blender is larger (and has lasted for many years under daily use.)

FYI, the EdgeCraft company which manufactures Chef's Choice does not sell replacement motor or gear parts. You must send it to them for repair. However, they don't make repair estimates over the phone. Considering the price I paid for this product, I feel totally ripped off. I will never buy another Chef's Choice product.

I read a review about a different slicer which recommends limiting use to under 10 minutes at a time. I would strongly... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Slicer, January 30, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer (Kitchen)
I can only give this slicer 5 stars, if I had a choice I would give it 10 stars.
I got this as a Christmas gift. My first use was to test it at slicing the dinner turkey leftovers for lunch meat. It worked perfectly.
I have since used it to slice roast beef, sharp cheddar cheese, ham and vegetables.
The meat is cut as thin as you want, I prefer very thin, no problem.
This is a dream machine, it is built to last and easy to clean.
I have tried to find something negitive to say but I really cannot. If you need a slicer Buy it,
No I don;t work for chefchoice. I am really a satisified customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warning Pro Food Slice is Great!!!!, October 28, 2010
By
This review is from: Waring Pro Food Slicer- Professional Quality
I bought this slicer about 5 years ago and it's the best slicer. It slices with ease and yes it does have to be cleaned. Cleaning this is a breeze with it's smooth stainless steel finish all you need to do is wipe it out never need to scrub and it only takes a few miutes. The gliding tray does not come off for very good reasons, so you don't take your arm off when using it. This is the way professional slicers are made. It is a great size for home use and it does a professional job every time. When I am done using it I clean it dry it and wrap in a plastic bag so its ready to go the next time I use it. This is the only one on the market worth buying.

3.0 out of 5 stars dangerous food glide handel, March 30, 2011

The slicer slices ok, but the food glide handle comes up and off too easily. I have to take one hand and hold the food glide handle down while trying to glide the food thru to the blade. Is this the correct handle for this slicer. FS150 model #. I have used food slicers before and never had this problem. I am almost afraid to use it.I hate to return an item and do not like to complain, but I think this is worth looking into before someone puts their hand into the blade.

4.0 out of 5 stars It Does The Job, February 27, 2011
By
This review is from: Waring Pro Food Slicer- Professional Quality
Have had the slicer for a bit over a year. I don't use it every day or even every week. When our freezer gets low on sliced meats we take the stuff we have bought on sale (boneless ham, London broil, rump roast etc), cook it as needed and have a slicing party. The machine produces quality slices, speedily, with relatively little frustration. We like to do our own because most deli meats seem to have been processed with a high salt solution of some kind. A negative: the movable tray that holds the meat does not move smoothly. It seemed to hang up on the rail. My solution was to spray a bit of Pam on the rail as lubrication prior to each use. Problem solved. I also think cleanup is not that easy because of bits of meat that get stuck in tiny nooks and crannies, as well as removing the Pam on the rail!

This review is from: Microplane 34007 Kitchen Cut-Protection Glove (Kitchen)
I too bought this glove to use with my mandoline slicer, but now that I have it I use it with my microplane and other food graters as well. I thought it might be a bit cumbersome, but it's not at all. I think it's important to remember that this glove is cut RESISTANT, not cut proof.

The glove fits my hand very well, but I can see that it might be too small for others. I normally wear a woman's size small glove. This microplane glove is quite flexible though, and I'm certain it would easily fit a woman's size medium or even large. One man's review here indicates he struggled but managed to get it on his bigger hand. I agree there should be one or two other size options, and this is the only reason I didn't give this a 5-star rating.

It goes without saying that the glove will need cleaning after using it to hold food against a slicer or grater. It is machine washable, but not machine dryable. Here's what I do to clean the glove in between machines... Read more

Although expensive, this glove is a time and hand saver! I use it regularly when slicing horizontally into onions, shallots, etc. to protect me from cuts when the knife blade slips. It also works great for protecting my fingers and fingernails when I grate cheese on a box grater. Using the Microplane glove means that I can grate gruyere right down to the rind and avoid nicking my fingers up or having nail polish chips getting into the food.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good investment!!, October 26, 2009

I absolutly love this. I bought this to use with my mandolin. It's a piece of mind knowing that in case I slip with the guard, I have this glove as backup. I think in the near future I'll buy another glove for the othr hand, just in case I forget and do something stupid with the other hand! Getting cut is no picnic. For me it takes about a week to heal (minor cuts/no tendons involved) and doing my daily chores takes forever.
